Date:

Agartala, 16th October 2026 :   A total of 3,047 Durga Puja celebrations are scheduled across Tripura this year, slightly higher than the 2,997 pujas held in 2025, according to official data available up to 4 pm on October 16. Of the total pujas planned for 2026, 971 will be organised in urban areas and 2,076 in rural areas, reflecting the widespread participation in the state’s biggest annual festival.

West Tripura district has recorded the highest number of pujas, with 775 celebrations scheduled this year, compared to 772 in 2025. Sepahijala district follows with 436 pujas, up from 411 last year, while Khowai has reported 408, against 397 in 2025.

Gomati district will host 363 pujas, compared to 382 last year, while South Tripura has reported 305, against 268 in 2025. North Tripura has recorded 271 pujas, slightly lower than 275 last year. Dhalai will host 268 pujas, compared to 272 in 2025, while Unakoti has reported 221, marginally higher than 220 last year.

The district-wise figures indicate an increase in the overall number of pujas, with notable growth in South Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowai. However, North, Dhalai and Gomati have registered declines.

Meanwhile, the state police have established 181 Police Assistance Booths across the eight districts to facilitate public safety and provide assistance during the festive period. West Tripura has the highest number of such booths at 40, followed by Dhalai with 30 and Sepahijala with 27.

Khowai has 19 assistance booths, while Unakoti and South Tripura have 18 each. North Tripura has 16, and Gomati has 13.

The police assistance booths are expected to help maintain law and order and provide support to visitors and devotees during the celebrations. With thousands of puja pandals spread across urban and rural areas, security arrangements remain an important part of the state’s festive preparations.
