Agartala, 19th July 2025: In a significant stride toward empowering tribal students, Tripura is set to begin academic activities in six newly constructed Ekalavya Model Residential Schools starting August, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma announced following an inspection on Saturday.
During a visit to the Ultachhara campus in Gandacherra, Minister Debbarma reviewed the school and hostel infrastructure, accompanied by MDC Bidyut Chakma, MLA Nandita Debbarma Reang, and senior officials from the Tribal Welfare Department.
“These institutions will not merely offer textbook-based learning,” stated Debbarma, “but will actively shape the thinking, mindset, and sense of responsibility among tribal students. Our goal is to foster a generation that leads society with pride in their culture, identity, and history.”
The model schools are designed to integrate leadership training, sports, cultural engagement, and tech-based education—creating an environment for holistic development. According to the Minister, such a framework will mold students into confident, humane, and socially conscious individuals.
In a tribal-majority state like Tripura, these institutions signal a transformative approach. The schools aim to instill self-respect and a spirit of community leadership among tribal youth—laying the groundwork for future social builders and changemakers.
