Agartala, 31st July 2024: On Wednesday, Tripura’s Transport Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, addressed a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging the conversion of the single-line rail track from Lumding in Assam to Sabroom in Tripura’s South District into a double-line track.
In the letter, Chowdhury emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “Currently, the track from Lumding to Sabroom is a single line, which causes delays for both express and local trains. This setup prevents us from running more trains or introducing new services.” He highlighted that the Chief Minister of Tripura had previously requested the Union Railway Minister’s support for this issue in a letter dated May 23, 2022.
The letter also mentioned that the North Eastern Frontier Railways had recently informed them that the Final Location Survey (FLS) for doubling the track from Chandranathpur in Assam to Agartala is currently underway.
Chowdhury stressed the significance of the Agartala-Sabroom rail line, not only for improving trade and connectivity with other North Eastern states but also with Bangladesh. He urged the Ministry to prioritize the double-lining of the Agartala-Sabroom route, requesting the completion of the FLS for this section simultaneously with the Chandranathpur to Agartala route.
“Your support will greatly help us to meet our development goals and the needs of the people of Tripura,” Chowdhury concluded, appealing for swift action on this critical infrastructure project.
