Agartala, March 09, 2023: An Awareness cum Hands-on Training Program on “Vermicomposting: an Ecofriendly Approach towards Sustainable Agriculture” was organized by the Environmental Club ‘VASUDHA’, Tripura University on the March 07 last at Department of Forestry and Biodiversity, Tripura University.
The program was supported by Himalayan Knowledge Network Program (Tripura Chapter) under LiFE program and sponsored by National Mission on Himalayan Studies, MoEF & CC, Government of India. A total of 85 students and research scholars attended the program.
The inaugural session was chaired by Prof B K Datta, Dean, Faculty of Science, TU. Other dignitaries attended the program were Prof A K Saha, Director, Research and Developmental Cell, TU, Dr Somdev Banik, Dean, Student Welfare, TU, Prof Sabyasachi Dasgupta, Nodal Person, HKNP (Tripura Chapter), Dr Bimal Debnath, HOD, Forestry and Biodiversity Dept, TU and Dr Sourabh Deb, Convener of the Programme.
The aims and objectives of the program were to impart the knowledge of Vermicomposting amongst the students and researchers towards Organic Farming and Sustainable Agriculture.
Prof. Priyashankar Choudhury, Department of Zoology, TU delivered a special talk on “Vermicomposting tecnology” explaining the importance of vermicomposting in the present scenario of chemical loaded Agricultural practice and gave a practical demonstration of the vermicomposting process at the Vermicomposting Unit, TU.
The participants benefitted a lot from the program and they shared their feedback to apply the gained knowledge at their homes. The program ended successfully with a vote of thanks by Ms Kanika Tripura, Member of the environment club.
