Agartala, 6th August 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) has submitted a memorandum to the Director of the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, demanding the immediate suspension of a doctor at GB Pant Hospital over alleged misconduct with a patient.
In the memorandum submitted by TPYC President Neel Kamal Saha, the organisation alleged that on August 4, a patient visited GB Pant Hospital seeking treatment for a dental problem and was referred to a specialist doctor. According to the complaint, after waiting outside the doctor’s chamber for a long time, the patient addressed the doctor as “Dada.” The doctor allegedly responded by asking the patient to call him “Baba” instead. When the patient refused, the doctor reportedly declined to examine or treat him.
The Youth Congress described the alleged behaviour as “unacceptable” and claimed that the patient had not used any abusive or unparliamentary language. The organisation stated that such conduct by a doctor in one of the state’s premier government hospitals tarnishes the image of both the Health Department and the medical fraternity.
The memorandum further alleged that when police arrived at the hospital to inquire into the incident, a police officer advised the patient to touch the doctor’s feet and seek forgiveness so that he could receive treatment. TPYC termed the alleged incident as “barbaric” and called for strict action.
Demanding accountability, the Youth Congress urged the Health Department to immediately suspend the concerned doctor and issue directions to all government doctors to maintain professional and respectful behaviour towards patients.
The Health & Family Welfare Department has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
