Agartala, 24th April 2025: Former Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar on Thursday strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, calling it “barbaric and inhumane.” The attack, which claimed the lives of 28 people and left 20 others seriously injured, has sparked outrage and raised questions about the government’s handling of security in the region.
Speaking on the incident, Sarkar highlighted the tragic death of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a local resident who was fatally shot while attempting to disarm the terrorists. Shah, who worked as a pony guide for tourists in Pahalgam has been hailed as a hero for his bravery. Sarkar urged the central government to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide support to the families of the victims.
“The Pahalgam terrorist attack is a significant and tragic event, following the Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 soldiers due to the government’s indifference,” Sarkar stated. He criticized the government’s claim that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir had been resolved after the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the region. “If the problem has been solved, how did such a major incident occur?” he questioned, pointing to the ongoing attacks on security personnel in the region.
Sarkar also raised concerns about the surveillance and preparedness of security forces, suggesting that the government’s actions to fulfill political interests were putting citizens at greater risk. “The steps taken by the government are harming the people and placing them in more danger,” he remarked.
The former Chief Minister called for exemplary punishment for the attackers and appealed to the government to stand by the victims’ families during this difficult time.
