Agartala, 20th August 2025:    The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has formally raised objections to the placement of a heart-shaped promotional sign at the site of the half-bust statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya DebBarman in Agartala, calling it a “disrespectful” and “visually unappealing” addition to a landmark honoring the architect of modern Tripura.

In a letter dated August 18, 2025, addressed to Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and copied to the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, TMP senior functionary and former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma expressed “immense anguish and displeasure” over the display. The sign, reportedly promoting Ward 20 of the municipal corporation, was described as undermining the sanctity of the site inaugurated by the Chief Minister himself.

Debbarma urged the government to take corrective measures and hold those responsible accountable, emphasizing the need to restore the dignity of the statue site.

In response, the Chief Minister’s Secretariat issued an official acknowledgment on August 20, confirming receipt of the complaint. The letter, signed by Under Secretary S. Das, stated that the Chief Minister had discussed the matter with the Agartala Municipal authority and directed them to take appropriate action.
