Agartala, 12th November 2025 : Hundreds of teachers under the Samagra Shiksha scheme took to the streets here today pressing for job regularization and two other demands. Organized by the Tripura Rajya Samagra Shiksha Karmachari Sangh, the rally began at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and culminated in a deputation to the Director of Elementary Education.
The teachers cited two favorable rulings from the Tripura High Court’s division bench, which directed the government to regularize their employment. However, the state later filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, challenging the verdict. Teachers said they have struggled to navigate the legal process since the first petition was filed in 2015, with a key ruling issued on February 23, 2021.
They criticized the government’s subsequent scheme, which included basic pay and increments but excluded benefits like dearness allowance and medical coverage—calling it unprecedented across India. A later High Court order clarified that TET was not required and regularization should begin after five years of service, but the state again filed an SLP.
Ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on November 19, the teachers urged the government to withdraw the petition and implement the High Court’s directives. They also appealed to the Chief Minister to approach the issue with empathy, noting his earlier assurances.
