Agartala, 6th August 2025 :  A devastating accident in Teliamura’s Chakmaghat area has triggered widespread protests and raised serious questions about administrative accountability. Mihir Lal Debnath, a truck driver from Dashda-Kanchanpur, lost control of his cement-laden lorry, resulting in a horrific crash. Despite battling for survival for nearly five to six hours, Debnath succumbed to his injuries, marking a tragic end to his life.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism of the local administration, with many alleging gross negligence. In response, the CPIM Teliamura Subdivision Committee organized a silent protest march through the streets of Teliamura, wearing black badges to mourn Debnath’s death and condemn the administration’s failure. Protesters demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Simultaneously, the All Driver Welfare Association staged a road blockade on the Assam-Agartala National Highway at Chakmaghat, demanding a fair and transparent inquiry into Debnath’s death. The protest disrupted traffic for hours, drawing attention to the plight of drivers and the need for improved safety measures. The blockade was lifted after nearly two hours following assurances from administrative officials.
