Agartala, October 18, 2022: In a pathetic incident, a bike rider had to pay for the potholes created at various places on the national highway at Bagbasa under Dharmanagar sub-division on Tuesday morning.
It is reported that the bike rider Sudhangshu Nath, resident of Shanicherra was returning home after dropping his daughter at Bagbasa School on Tuesday morning between 10.30 AM and 11 AM. There were several potholes on the road in front of a petrol pump, the motorcycle bearing registration number KA59E-2298 was dashed by a 12-wheeler truck from behind. The truck bearing registration number AS01FC-4273 smashed the bike rider.
Immediately after receiving information, the Churaibari police station staff seized the truck and arrested the driver Vishal Nath. Meanwhile, local residents blocked the National Highway in Bagbasa Ward No 2. The blockade lasted until 1 PM in the afternoon.
On the other hand, near Shanicherra Bazar, where Sudhanshu’s business shop is located, residents of Shanicherra blocked the road. Things started to heat up. After a long discussion with Dharmanagar sub-division’s SDPO Soumya Debbarma, a DC and various officials, the locals lifted the blockade of the National Highway with the assurance that the potholes of the National Highway would be repaired within two to three days.
The villagers requested that the crossers built along the roads should be moved within 100 meters as per the government rules. Moreover, it is requested to conduct a thorough examination in the issue of license to motorcycle riders. The arrested truck driver Vishal’s nephew’s house is in Ward No 1 of Radhapur Village Panchayat of Dharmanagar.
