Agartala, 6th June 2025 : A day after World Environment Day, students and women entrepreneurs of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College launched an ambitious tree plantation drive today aiming to plant one lakh trees across the state within the next year. The initiative, part of the “One Crore Trees in One Year – Greenery for Social Development Campaign,” was organized in collaboration with social organization ‘Positive Barta’.
Today, participants planted saplings not only within the college campus but also in surrounding areas, encouraging local residents to join the movement. A student volunteer remarked, “This is not just a symbolic program for one day, but a promise linked to our lives — a sincere effort to give back to nature.”
Over the next few days, about 3,000 trees are expected to be planted as part of a joint effort by students and local women entrepreneurs. Organizers said the campaign will focus on both awareness and preservation. They also plan to implement area-specific strategies to ensure the healthy growth of the trees.
Malay Pit, founder of Positive Barta and President of the Medical College emphasized the long-term vision of the initiative. “This momentum of tree plantation needs to be taken forward. It is a continuous process. Our goal is to plant one crore trees across the country, especially in West Bengal and Tripura, between June 5, 2025, and June 5 next year,” he said.
He further praised the dedication of women entrepreneurs, stating, “The way women entrepreneurs in Tripura are engaged in saving the environment is inspiring. Their participation will ensure not only planting but also nurturing the trees for a greener future.”
Organizers have pledged to conduct awareness drives, environmental education sessions, and community-based green initiatives throughout the year.
