Agartala, 11th October 2026 : In a major step towards strengthening noise pollution monitoring and enforcement in Tripura, the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) will hand over 35 Sound Level Meters to the State Home (Police) Department on October 12.
The programme will be held at Pragna Bhawan, Hall No. III, Gorkhabasti, Agartala, with Minister Animesh Debbarma attending as the Chief Guest.
According to an official communication issued by the TSPCB on October 9, the instruments have been procured to improve noise pollution monitoring and ensure effective implementation of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
The initiative assumes particular significance ahead of Durga Puja, when loudspeakers, public address systems, processions and cultural programmes often lead to increased noise levels in urban and residential areas.
The Sound Level Meters will enable police personnel to scientifically measure noise levels and take appropriate action against violations of prescribed limits. The programme will also include demonstrations and practical training on operating the devices, along with sensitisation on the legal provisions governing noise pollution.
Dr. K. Sasikumar, Chairman of the TSPCB, will deliver a presentation on “Noise Pollution: Its Effects, Control & Regulation”. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Manchak Ippar and Principal Secretary Shantanu are also scheduled to address the gathering.
Dr. Bishu Karmakar, Member Secretary of the TSPCB, will deliver the welcome address, while Mahender Singh, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, will propose the vote of thanks.
A dedicated demonstration session will be conducted from 1:30 pm to 2 pm, familiarising officials with the practical use of the equipment.The initiative is expected to strengthen enforcement and promote greater compliance with noise pollution norms across the state.
