Agartala, 18th September 2024: In a startling development at the Tripura Central Correctional Home in Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district, a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan, Anjan Das, has been caught smuggling a significant quantity of Biri packets into the prison. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with Das allegedly attempting to deliver these items to inmates for personal financial gain.
Das was apprehended in the act and has since been reassigned to the headquarters of the 11th Battalion at Pathaliaghat. This arrest came after multiple complaints regarding his misconduct, including accusations of supplying intoxicants to prisoners.
A video showing Das being searched and the contraband being recovered quickly spread on social media, leading to a surge in public attention. The state government has responded by initiating an internal investigation into the matter, led by the Deputy Superintendent of the jail.
The inquiry will focus on how the video was leaked and distributed, with show cause notices issued to those involved in the recording and dissemination of the footage. Authorities expect to receive the inquiry report by the end of the day.
