Dharmanagar: Sept 18. A major accident took place on Wednesday around 1 PM near the Kanchanpur petrol pump when a 16-wheeler lorry loaded with cement collapsed on a temporary iron bridge. The incident attributed to the driver’s carelessness.
According to eyewitnesses, the lorry reached from outside the state attempted to cross the temporary bridge adjacent to the Kanchanpur petrol pump. The bridge was currently under construction as part of the Kanchanpur Jampui Road project, could not withstand the weight of the heavily loaded vehicle and gave way.
Fortunately, both the driver and the co-driver managed to escape unscathed and fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local sources revealed that the old bridge in the area is being demolished to make way for a new one, and the temporary bridge’s carrying capacity is clearly marked.
Residents are now eagerly awaiting the administration’s response to this incident, hoping for swift action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
