Agartala, 7th November 2024: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TATA STRIVE and the Indian Hotels Company Ltd. (IHCL), part of the Taj Hotel Group, to establish a Hospitality Skill Development Centre of Excellence in the council.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Royal Scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, which currently governs the District Council in alliance with the ruling BJP. He announced that the Centre would be located at Khumulwng, the headquarters of TTAADC. This initiative marks a significant step, as after Assam, TATA STRIVE and IHCL have chosen Tripura for this venture.
The new residential hospitality training center will have the capacity to train 250 students, offering specialized management training in the service and hotel sectors, with hands-on practical experience. The Royal Scion emphasized the value of offering certifications from TATA Group and IHCL, believing it would enhance the employability and credibility of youth from Tripura and the Northeast.
“There are many who have approached us, but we believe that TATA’s reputation will genuinely benefit our youth, making them more employable. This will provide them with better skills, opening doors to good salaries,” he said, highlighting the challenge of creating a brighter future for Tripura’s youth through proper skill development.
TATA STRIVE and IHCL have over 50 centers across India, and their move to Tripura reflects their commitment to expanding skill training in diverse sectors, including IT and engineering. The Royal Scion further expressed his aim of addressing legacy issues and improving communication and exposure for local youth.
The Tata Trust will fully cover student fees, with the TTAADC contributing a subsidy. The Royal Scion also expressed hope that companies like ONGC and GAIL would contribute through their CSR initiatives to support this endeavor for future generations.
Ameya Vanjari, Chief Operating Officer of TATA STRIVE, revealed that the program would launch soon, with training offered in kitchen operations, front office, food & beverage, and housekeeping. The courses will last between 10 to 15 weeks.
