Agartala, 1st July 2025: Pradesh OBC Morcha President and Tripura Tea Development Corporation Chairman Samir Ghosh launched a scathing attack on the CPIM today accusing the opposition party of misleading the state’s tea workers with misinformation regarding the recent wage hike announced by the BJP government.
Speaking to media personnel at the BJP state headquarters here, Ghosh stated, “The CPI(M) has a history of betraying the working class. They deprived tea garden workers of their legitimate rights during their tenure, and now they are trying to position themselves as champions of workers’ interests. It is not only ironic—it is dishonest.”
He announced that the BJP-led government had approved a 16% hike in daily wages for tea garden workers. Under the new rates, adult workers will earn Rs 204 up from Rs 176 and minor workers will receive Rs 102 up from Rs 88.
Highlighting the opposition’s alleged misinformation, Ghosh said, “In the past few days, CPIM leaders have been publicly distorting facts about this decision. The people deserve to know the truth.”
Citing a 2015 letter from the central government to the then Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Ghosh claimed that the Centre had recommended raising tea workers’ wages by Rs 160. “Instead of implementing that, the CPI(M) government increased wages by only Rs 43. That letter was never made public to the workers,” he asserted.
He added that in 2016, the CPIM raised wages from Rs 43 to Rs 93, which he described as “too little, too late.” “These are the same leaders who now talk about workers’ rights as if they’ve always cared. But it is the BJP that has taken concrete steps for their welfare,” Ghosh said.
He concluded by thanking Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha for the “visionary and pro-worker decision,” reiterating that the BJP remains committed to the socio-economic upliftment of labor communities.
He reiterated, “The CPI(M) government in the past was not labor-friendly. Today, their claims are an attempt to rewrite history and mislead the public.”
Ghosh was accompanied by former TTDC Chairman Santosh Saha and media in-charge Sunit Sarkar in the press conference
