TTDC with Tea Board of India’s support organized ‘Run for Tea’ to promote tea production

Agartala, September 03, 2022: Aiming to promote state’s tea production and marketing across the country and abroad, a marathon ‘Run for Tea’ has been organized by the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) with support from Tea Board of India (TBI) on Saturday morning.

Addressing the flagging off ceremony at the premises of Bir Chandra State Central Library here, Education minister Ratan Lal Nath said the journey of production of tea started in 1916 in Tripura. The state government initiated steps to promote state produced tea and for that reason ‘Run for Tea’ has been organised. Across the country, sixth position is ranked by Tripura. To promote tea, state government has been taking one after another decisions for the welfare of tea garden workers. With the efforts of TTDC chairman Santosh Saha and corporation’s officials along with staff introduced logo, brands and setting up of auction centre. Tea production has increased during the past three-four years, he added.

Nath said “TTDC owns three tea gardens out of 54 across Tripura. Over 10,000 tea garden workers are there but they never had their own land earlier. But this present government has given them their right to land of ‘2 Gondas’ to each tea worker under Mukhyamanti Cha Sramik Kalyan Prakalpa. Their wages have been hiked to Rs 176 from Rs 105 per day. After the rubber industry, tea is the second most organized industry in this state.”ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury expressed his happiness on the role of TTDC in achieving newer heights of success. He said “Tripura Tea Development Corporation organized this marathon ‘Run for Tea’ for promoting the state’s tea in the national and international markets. With the constant support from the Tea Board of India, new logo, branding of packet, etc will help to attain more success in the days to come. Tripura’s tea will achieve good reputation in the global markets in the near future.”

TTDC chairman Saha, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, NE Tea Board official, Industries and Commerce department’s Special Secretary Abhishek Chandra and officials of various departments participated in this marathon.
