Agartala, November 18: A Raj Bhavan Abhiyan is set to take place on November 23, featuring a total of 17 demands, with a focus on Dalit rights and social justice. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving seven organizations, including the Tripura Tapashili Jati Sammanway Samiti and the Tripura Khet Majdoor Union. Sudhan Das, the leader of the TTJSS disclosed the details during a press conference held at the Ambedkar Bhavan, Melarmath on Saturday.

Das highlighted the distressing conditions faced by Dalits, Scheduled Tribes, and tribals in the 76th year of India’s independence, citing severe misery and discrimination. He expressed concern that the vision outlined in the Constitution of India by Dr. BR Ambedkar is currently under strain. Das pointed out that, particularly in the nine years of the BJP-led government, the situation has grown increasingly dire. As a response, he emphasized the need for policy changes and demands aligned with Scheduled Caste interests to foster the overall development of Scheduled Castes.

Specifically, Sudhan Das called for the formulation of statutory legislation in both central and state budgets to ensure the allocation of necessary funds proportionate to the population of Scheduled Tribes sub-planes. Additionally, he advocated for the establishment of need-based residential schools for scheduled students and the preservation of employment and education reserved posts. The demand for strict adherence to reservation in promotions was also emphasized.

The leader stated that these demands would be presented to the governor by leftist organizations, urging the people of Scheduled Areas to actively participate in the Raj Bhavan Abhiyan. The initiative aims to address pressing issues and advocate for the rights and development of marginalized communities.
