Agartala, 8th December 2025: Within just 24 hours, two shocking incidents have shaken Rajnagar in Teliamura, leaving residents gripped by fear and raising serious questions about police accountability.
Last night, the livelihood of local auto-rickshaw driver Pritam Das was dealt a severe blow when his only source of income, a tomtom vehicle parked outside his home was stripped of its expensive parts. By this morning, Das found the damage. “This tomtom is my only means of earning. Without its parts, how will I survive? My family’s future is now uncertain,” he lamented.
Locals allege that a gang of miscreants carried out the theft under the cover of darkness. “If there is no night patrol, criminals will only thrive,” one resident remarked angrily.
Even before the shock subsided, another incident deepened the crisis. Yesterday morning, Paritosh Debnath, arrested in connection with an electrical equipment theft case, escaped from Teliamura police custody. The accused, a youth from Bishalgarh, fled while under the watch of SPOs Sunita Rudra Pal and Pintu Sarkar, sparking allegations of gross police negligence. Residents described the escape as “unprecedented security failure inside the police station itself.”
The twin incidents have triggered outrage. “Outside, thefts are rising. Inside, arrested suspects are escaping. Where is public safety?” questioned a local resident. Civic groups have demanded a departmental inquiry against the responsible officers and a complete overhaul of the town’s security arrangements.
Concerns over Teliamura police’s night patrols had already been raised earlier. After these back-to-back incidents, those questions have grown sharper. Across Rajnagar and adjoining areas, trust in law enforcement has eroded, replaced by suspicion and fear.
The town now echoes with one pressing question: “If the law slips from police hands, where will ordinary people find protection?”
