Two arrested in Warrangbari Village Committee poll firing case

Agartala, 1st October 2026 : Tripura Police have arrested two persons in connection with the firing incident during the Village Committee elections at Warrangbari in Gomati district on September 28, in which a Tipra Motha Party candidate and two others were injured.

Gomati District Additional SP Rajib Debnath said the accused were arrested from Champaknagar and Takajala areas of Sepahijala district on Wednesday night based on credible information.

The duo were produced before a court on Thursday, and police sought their remand for further interrogation.

The arrests were made in a joint operation by the Udaipur SDPO, RK Pur Police Station and Sepahijala district police. Police are continuing the investigation to identify other persons allegedly involved in the firing.

Following the incident, Tipra Motha supporters had blocked roads and met the State Election Commissioner, demanding the arrest of those responsible within 72 hours.
