Agartala, 1st October 2026 : Residents of Krishna Kumar Para under Kulaichhara village in Ambassa subdivision blocked the Ambassa–Kamalpur road at Nalichhara on Thursday, demanding immediate repair of a road and bridge that they said have remained in poor condition for nearly six months.
The protesters alleged that the road has been submerged by stream water and the bridge has deteriorated, despite repeated complaints to the concerned department. They said the lack of action left them with no option but to block the road.
The blockade lasted for nearly two hours, causing traffic congestion on both sides. Several commuters were stranded, and protesters reportedly stopped a vehicle carrying schoolchildren as well as a vehicle carrying a woman who was returning home after undergoing surgery. The woman was later forced to walk home, according to local sources.
RD department SDO Bimal Barman reached the spot after about two hours and held talks with the protesters. He assured them that repair work would begin from Thursday. Following the assurance, the blockade was withdrawn.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road blockades and their impact on commuters and emergency services. Locals have demanded that the repair work be completed at the earliest and that essential vehicles not be obstructed during such protests.
