Agartala, 25th June 2026: In a major crackdown on the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances, police from Bodhjungnagar Police Station arrested two persons and seized 1,435 bottles of intoxicating cough syrup from the Khayerpur area late on Wednesday night.
Speaking to the media, Second Officer of Bodhjungnagar Police Station, Parikshit Debbarma, said the operation was conducted based on a confidential tip-off. Police, along with personnel from Khayerpur Outpost, intercepted a DCM vehicle arriving from Jirania and recovered five packets containing a total of 1,435 bottles of the banned cough syrup.
According to police, the estimated market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 4 lakh.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment had been imported through a delivery agency. To identify and apprehend the intended recipients, police officers laid a trap in plain clothes and kept the consignment under surveillance.
Subsequently, two individuals arrived to collect the cough syrup and were immediately detained by the police. They were later arrested in connection with the case.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify the source of the consignment and determine who was responsible for importing the narcotic cough syrup into the area. Further arrests are not being ruled out as the investigation progresses.
The seizure is being viewed as a significant success in the ongoing efforts of Tripura Police to curb the illegal trade of narcotic substances in the state.
