Agartala, 24th April 2025:  In a decisive move to curb cross-border infiltration, security forces in Tripura have apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals along with their alleged Indian facilitators from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.

The arrests were made during a late-night operation conducted jointly by the 199 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police, following a tip-off regarding suspicious movement along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The two foreign nationals, identified as Noor and Alamin, were intercepted by BSF personnel during routine surveillance. Upon preliminary questioning, they reportedly confessed to entering India illegally and provided information that led to the arrest of two Indian men—Swapan Kar and Bidhan Deb—suspected of being involved in a broader smuggling and infiltration racket.

“Based on the inputs from the detained individuals, we were able to trace and arrest two Indian nationals who are believed to be part of an organised touting network aiding illegal border crossings,” a senior police official said.

Following the arrests, security agencies have launched a wider crackdown on suspected safe houses and tout networks operating in the border regions of the state. All four accused were presented before a local court, with authorities seeking custodial remand of the Indian suspects to further investigate the cross-border nexus.A formal case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
