Agartala, 22nd October 2025:  Amid growing public outrage across Tripura, East Agartala Women’s police station were compelled to act following serious allegations involving two minor girls who had reportedly been forced to flee their home for over a week due to threats from a local political leader.

According to the complaint filed on October 3, the family of a rickshaw puller residing in the Swami Vivekananda Housing Complex was allegedly targeted by Shibu Saha, booth president of the ruling party’s Ward No. 1. The family claims they were pressured to contribute to Durga Puja donations and, upon refusal, faced intimidation and assault. The two minor daughters were allegedly molested during the incident, prompting them to leave home out of fear.

The family further alleges that several women from the housing complex, believed to be close to the booth president, supported the intimidation. Despite filing a formal complaint, police reportedly failed to summon the accused for questioning, raising concerns about political interference.

In a disturbing escalation, the accused allegedly threatened the minors with rape and warned the family of dire consequences if they did not withdraw the complaint. One of the girls, whose school exams are approaching, remains in hiding due to fear.

Yesterday, a delegation from the Pradesh Mahila Congress visited the East Agartala Women’s Police Station, demanding to know why the accused had not been arrested. Following media coverage, police reportedly visited the housing complex today and escorted the minors back to their residence.

The girls’ mother claimed that supporters of the booth president had preemptively unlocked the housing complex gates ahead of the police visit. Upon the family’s return, tensions flared as the accused’s followers allegedly staged a protest. Some local women claimed the allegations were exaggerated, stating that the booth president had only attempted to slap one of the girls but did not make contact.

Residents of the housing complex expressed mixed reactions. One woman stated that peaceful coexistence is essential and warned that disruptive families may not be allowed to stay. Meanwhile, the father of the minors asserted that he was physically assaulted and said a medical examination would confirm the injuries.

As of now, the status of the police investigation remains unclear. Despite the gravity of the allegations and the formal complaint lodged weeks ago, authorities have yet to summon the accused for interrogation. The family and local activists continue to question whether justice will be served, especially in a climate where political influence appears to overshadow due process.
