Two held with drugs worth 13 lakh

Agartala, 9th September 2025:  In a major crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the Tripura Police of Sonamura Police Station, in a joint operation with the 81 Battalion BSF, arrested two drug peddlers late on Monday night and seized narcotics worth nearly 13 lakh.

During the raid, officials recovered 100 bottles of Escuf cough syrup packed in two white bags and 600 grams of Yaba tablets concealed in a bundle from the accused’s residence. The arrested individuals have been identified as Idris Mia (60) and Monura Khatun (56), both residents of UNC Nagar, Fakiradula, under the Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala district.

Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, informed that during preliminary interrogation, the duo confessed that the consignment was meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh. A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and they will be produced before the court seeking police remand.

Police sources further revealed that the operation is still underway and more arrests are likely in connection with the case.
