Agartala, 9th September 2025:   A fresh controversy has erupted in Tripura’s Unakoti district over alleged land encroachment involving Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya, the region’s oldest higher education institution. Local sources claim that the Tripura Wakf Board has unlawfully occupied a portion of the college’s government-allotted land, triggering widespread anger among students, alumni, faculty and residents of Kailashahar.

Principal Dr. Pinak Pal has formally petitioned Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bipul Das on September 8, urging immediate demarcation of the college’s boundaries. In his written complaint, Dr. Pal warned that failure to secure the institution’s 19.272 acres of recorded land could result in irreversible damage to its future.

The issue has quickly gained political traction. A delegation led by Kailashahar BJP Mandal President Pritam Ghosh submitted a memorandum to the SDM, condemning the alleged encroachment and demanding swift government intervention. “Encroachment on public educational land is unacceptable,” Ghosh stated.

Alumni have also voiced their frustration. “Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya is our heritage. If the Wakf Board can claim this land today, others may follow tomorrow. If the administration remains silent, we will be forced to take to the streets,” said one former student.

Locals allege that the Wakf Board is leveraging its influence to bring parts of the college land under its control, potentially halting expansion projects and jeopardizing educational opportunities for future generations. Despite growing public pressure, authorities have yet to take visible action, fueling further resentment.

The local people are now demanding a thorough investigation, immediate recovery of the disputed land and strict action against those responsible. As tensions rise, the question looms large: if government-recorded educational land can be seized, where does administrative authority truly stand?
