Agartala, 12th September 2026 : Two persons were arrested after a joint operation by Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the seizure of 120 grams of Yaba tablets, a factory-made pistol and five live rounds in South Kalamchoura (Galachipa) under Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district on Saturday.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint search operation was launched on September 12 in the South Kalamchoura area by personnel of Kalamchoura Police Station, Sonamura Police Station and the 81st Battalion of the BSF. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sonamura.
During the search, security personnel detained two individuals and recovered the suspected contraband, firearm and ammunition from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Joynal Hossen (37), a resident of Madhya Boxanagar under Kalamchoura Police Station, and Prasanjit Sarkar (35), a resident of South Kalamchoura.
Police said a case is being registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the *Arms Act.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the Yaba tablets and firearm and to determine whether the accused have links with a larger drug and arms network operating in the border areas.
