Agartala, 7th August 2025: Two ministers from Tripura—Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma today visited the residence of late truck driver Mihir Lal Debnath in Kanchanpur.
The ministers met the bereaved family and assured them of all possible assistance from the state government.
During the visit, the ministers handed over financial aid cheques to the family as part of the government’s support measures.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Tinku Roy said, “Everyone is aware of how this tragic incident took place. It is indeed painful. After the matter came to the notice of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, he ordered an immediate inquiry. A Sub-Divisional Magistrate was suspended, and a three-member inquiry committee was constituted. If the local administration had been more alert and proactive, the life of the young man might have been saved.”
He further added that the Chief Minister had personally spoken to the grieving family and deputed the ministers to visit them, understand their concerns, and extend solidarity during this difficult time.
“From the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, an amount of 2 lakh has been provided. An additional 6 lakh from the Disaster Management Fund has also been handed over to the family. I have asked the family to submit necessary documents so the parents can be enrolled under the social pension scheme, which will be sanctioned shortly. The district administration will continue to support the family in the future as needed,” Roy added.
North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Kanchanpur SDM Dr. Deepak Kumar, and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
