Agartala, 2nd August 2025: Two minor sisters have been admitted to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital following alleged acts of abuse by their biological parents sparking public outrage and calls for strict action.
According to preliminary information, a 14-year-old girl was reportedly beaten and confined at home after refusing to enter into an arranged marriage. She eventually fled the household and sought refuge at her grandmother’s residence, where both she and her younger sister later fell ill. Their condition prompted immediate medical attention.
On Saturday afternoon, Chairperson of the Tripura Child Rights Commission Jayanti Debbarma visited Bishalgarh Hospital alongside other officials to assess the situation. They consulted with medical staff regarding the minors’ treatment and assured that legal measures would be undertaken against the individuals responsible for the abuse.
Eyewitnesses described a heartbreaking scene at the hospital one girl lying sick with her younger sister silently sitting beside her bringing tears to the eyes of many present.
Authorities have confirmed that the future welfare of the two minors is under active review, with child protection measures being prioritized.
