Agartala, 15th May 2025: Tension escalated in the Itcherbil area under Teliamura police station as two monks displaying erratic behavior were detained by locals on Thursday. The incident has sparked concern among residents, particularly in the backdrop of the country’s ongoing wartime situation.
Reportedly, the monks were seen wandering incoherently in the locality since the morning, raising suspicion among residents. Upon being approached for identification, the individuals reportedly failed to provide valid identity documents and appeared hesitant in their responses. Alarmed by their behavior, locals detained the duo and informed the police.
“When we questioned them, they gave incoherent replies and refused to show any proper identification. Given the current situation, their presence was unsettling, so we decided to alert the authorities,” said a local resident.
Soon after, a team from Teliamura police station arrived at the scene, and the residents collectively handed over the detained monks for further investigation.
Authorities are yet to disclose further details regarding the identities and motives of the monks. Meanwhile, residents remain on edge as they await clarity from law enforcement officials regarding the incident.
