Agartala, 21st April 2026:In a joint operation, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two young men at Agartala’s Badarghat railway station while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis via train.
According to police officials, a total of 21 kg and 480 grams of cannabis was seized from their possession. The arrested individuals have been identified as Bipin Kumar Mandal and Dhanraj Kumar, both residents of Bihar.
The Officer-in-Charge of the GRP station stated that preliminary interrogation revealed the consignment had been delivered to the station by the main mastermind behind the smuggling operation. The accused were reportedly trying to transport the contraband to another state when they were apprehended.
Police estimated the market value of the seized cannabis to be over ₹4 lakh.
A case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the larger network involved in the operation.
