Agartala, 3rd August 2026: A sensational case of alleged theft has become the talk of Udaipur. Contractor Nihar Chandra Debnath has accused local residents Bipad Pal and his son Abhijit Pal of stealing construction materials worth nearly ₹1 crore from multiple project sites.
According to the complaint, for several years construction materials including rods, cement, and bricks were stolen under the cover of darkness from Debnath’s projects, causing repeated financial losses. It is alleged that Bipad Pal, who occasionally accompanied the contractor to various sites, used the opportunity to gather information about security arrangements and later removed materials for resale.
The issue came to light during the construction of the Tepania De-addiction Centre, where significant quantities of materials reportedly went missing. CCTV cameras installed at the site allegedly captured footage of Bipad Pal transporting rods and other supplies in a Bolero vehicle.
Debnath claims that after being confronted, Bipad Pal, his son, and family members visited his residence, apologized, and promised to repay the value of the stolen goods. However, despite the assurance, no repayment has been made to date.
The complaint further alleges that Bipad Pal often identified himself as a staunch supporter of the local BJP and was seen in photographs with party leaders. It is claimed that this political association helped him continue such activities unchecked. No official response has yet been issued by Pal or the party regarding these allegations.
Following the complaint, Debnath lodged a written report at Radhakishorepur Police Station. Police have initiated an investigation, examining CCTV footage and other evidence. Officials confirmed that those involved will be interrogated, and if the allegations are substantiated, legal action will follow.
