Agartala, 25th April 2025:  Authorities have intensified their probe into the alleged large-scale fraud involving HDFC Bank employees in Udaipur, as four cases have been filed by affected customers. The sub-divisional police officer has taken charge of the investigation, with oversight from the district’s additional superintendent of police and other officials.

Another individual linked to the Rs 82 lakh scam has been apprehended. Priyanka Pal Saha, wife of Jayanta Saha, a police officer stationed at RK Pur police station was arrested on April 21 by Pradhan Nagar police in Siliguri, West Bengal. She was transported from Agartala airport to Radha Kishorepur women’s police station in Udaipur before being presented at the District and Sessions Judge’s Court at 2:30 pm today. As per the court’s ruling, Saha has been placed in jail custody for a day.

Speaking on the case, Subdivision Police Officer (SDPO) Nirman Das stated, “So far, corruption worth Rs 82 lakh has come to light. Based on our investigation, we suspect that multiple individuals are involved.”

Das further expressed concern about banking malpractice in the region. “It goes without saying that some bank employees who come to do business in the state are engaging in dishonest practices. Apart from exploiting customers financially, certain employees are now actively trapping them in fraud. As a result, public trust in banks is eroding,” he remarked.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to unravel the full extent of the scam.
