Udaipur school faces severe teacher shortage, irregular attendance hampers education

Date:

Agartala, 23rd June 2026:   Serious allegations have surfaced against West Gokulpur Dakshinpara High Basic School in Udaipur, where both teacher shortage and irregular attendance are reportedly crippling the learning environment. Parents and guardians claim that the deteriorating situation has led many students to lose interest in studies and drift away from school.

Local sources informed that the school currently has only six teachers to manage eight classes from Grade I to VIII. With such limited staff, conducting regular lessons has become extremely difficult. Complaints further suggest that teachers often remain absent from classrooms, worsening the decline in academic standards.

Parents allege that due to the shortage, two or three classes are frequently merged into a single room, depriving students of subject-specific teaching. In some cases, teachers are said to remain in their own chambers instead of supervising classrooms, leaving children to spend time chatting or playing rather than studying.

During a visit on Monday, one classroom was found with just three students — from Grades I, II, and III — sitting without any teacher present. The headmaster later clarified that while six teachers are employed, only five were present that day, as one had been assigned census duties in Tepania block. He admitted that managing eight classes with such limited staff poses constant challenges.

Residents complain that despite the long-standing crisis, neither education officials nor inspectors have taken effective steps to improve the situation. As a result, many parents are transferring their children to other schools, causing student numbers to decline year after year.

Most of the enrolled students belong to working-class and low-income families. Their guardians say they have repeatedly demanded improvements but have yet to receive any concrete assurances. The worsening condition of the school has sparked widespread concern and frustration in the locality.
