Agartala, 23rd June 2026: Strong resentment has surfaced among residents of Manu Jamatia Para and Sardarai Reang Para in Santirbazar subdivision over the poor condition of the connecting road, which has turned into a major source of hardship and safety concerns for around 52 families.
The road, which serves as the only link for the villagers, has remained neglected for years due to the absence of proper repair work. Locals alleged that despite repeated assurances from different governments—from the Left Front regime to the present BJP-Tipra Motha coalition government—no concrete steps have been taken to improve the condition of the road.
The situation becomes more critical during the monsoon season, when several portions of the road remain submerged under water and become covered with mud, making movement extremely difficult. School and college students, office-goers, farmers, elderly residents and patients are forced to travel through the damaged stretch despite the risks.
Adding to the villagers’ concerns is a wooden culvert on the road, which they claim is in a dangerous condition and may collapse at any moment. Residents fear that any accident on the weak structure could lead to serious consequences.
Expressing their frustration, locals alleged that David Murasingh, the newly elected MDC of the area, had assured them during the election campaign that the road would be repaired. However, villagers claimed that after the election, the representative has not visited the area or taken visible steps to address their concerns.
“There are plenty of promises during elections, but after the voting is over, the problems of ordinary people remain ignored,” villagers said. They added that despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the attention of authorities, no permanent solution has been found.
Residents further alleged that the lack of development work on this important rural road has increased public dissatisfaction. They are now demanding immediate repair of the damaged culvert and renovation of the entire road.
The villagers warned that if necessary action is not taken soon, they will be forced to launch a larger public movement to press for their demands.
