Date:

Agartala, 29th May 2026:  The Higher Education Department has initiated the online admission process for undergraduate programmes in 29 Government Degree Colleges across Tripura, including the newly established Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College, for the 2026-27 academic session. Admissions began on May 29 and will remain open until midnight of June 7 through the SAMARTH portal.

Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat on Friday, Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma said the department is taking several measures to strengthen higher education opportunities in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He stated that admissions will continue to be conducted entirely through the SAMARTH portal to ensure transparency, merit-based selection and easy access for students, while offline applications will not be entertained.

The first merit list is scheduled for publication on June 19, with admissions to follow on June 22 and 23. Additional admission rounds will be conducted depending on seat vacancies, and the final phase will conclude between July 4 and 6.

Debbarma said the newly established Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College will commence academic activities this year. He also announced the introduction of a B.Sc. in Computer Science at IASE, Kunjaban, along with an increase in seats for BA English (Major). The total intake capacity in government colleges has risen to 32,159 seats, which he said is sufficient to accommodate eligible students passing Higher Secondary examinations this year.
