Agartala, July 26, 2023: The toll from the heart-wrenching electrocution incident during ‘Ulto Rath Yatra’ in June at Kumarghat has tragically increased to nine. Droupadi Nama, a 32-year-old woman injured in the accident, succumbed to her injuries at a Guwahati hospital, where she was undergoing treatment.

The dreadful mishap took place on June 28 during the return Rath Yatra festival in Kumarghat area, when the chariot of Lord Jagannath accidentally came into contact with a high-tension wire. The devastating electrocution claimed the lives of eight people, including two innocent children, while injuring 16 others.

Droupadi Nama, bravely battling for her life, was taken to Guwahati for treatment, but the severity of her injuries ultimately led to her passing on July 23. Tragically, her young son had already lost his life in the same heartrending accident.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the accident site and ordered a thorough investigation led by the district magistrate. However, the report’s findings remain undisclosed to the public.
