Unidentified deadbody recovered from Saima River, brick-filled sack found around neck

Agartala, 31st August 2026 :   An unidentified male body was recovered from the Saima River in the Bankarghat area of Gandacherra subdivision on Sunday night, triggering concern among locals. Residents spotted the body floating in the river and informed police.

Police and administrative officials reached the spot and recovered the body around 11 PM after a difficult operation. A sack filled with bricks was allegedly found tied around the deceased’s neck, while injury marks were also visible on the body, raising suspicion over the circumstances of his death.

The body was sent to Gandacherra Sub-divisional Hospital for post-mortem. Police said a forensic team from Agartala would examine the case, and the exact cause and circumstances of death would be established after forensic and post-mortem examinations.
