Agartala, 24th July 2024: The central government has unveiled the public welfare budget for the financial year 2024-25. MP Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his gratitude to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their efforts in crafting the budget.
Speaking at the budget session in Parliament, Deb highlighted the significant financial improvements the country has experienced since Narendra Modi took office in 2014. According to Deb, the Finance Minister has presented a budget of approximately ₹48 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, marking an 18.2 percent increase in capital expenditure compared to the previous year. He emphasized that higher capital expenditure benefits both government operations and national infrastructure, underscoring the Prime Minister’s commitment to directing the country towards progress by adequately funding all sectors.
Deb noted that all states would receive over ₹4.82 lakh crore through this budget, praising Sitharaman for presenting a budget focused on public welfare. The budget also aims to provide employment, skills, and other opportunities to 4.1 crore youth over five years.
One key initiative includes a project to offer internship opportunities to 1 crore youth in the top 500 organizations over the next five years, targeting young women from all socio-economic backgrounds. Deb stressed that this budget reflects Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to supporting the country’s youth, contrasting it with the previous Congress-led government, which he claimed neglected young people. The budget also allocates ₹1.48 lakh crore for education and skills development.
Additionally, the Union Budget aims to uplift villages and support the poor, extending the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana to provide free rations for another five years.
Deb pointed out India’s achievements under Modi’s regime, such as becoming the world’s leading milk producer, a position not attained during the Congress era. The country is also the second-largest producer of rice and wheat. Prime Minister Modi emphasized women’s empowerment in his speech, highlighting the reservation of 33 percent of government jobs for women.
In his address, Deb criticized the Congress government’s past actions, such as imposing President’s Rule in Tripura and installing the CPM to protect their alliance, while noting the CPM’s alliance with Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. He asserted that the BJP will remain in power until 2047, predicting a return to office with over 400 seats. Deb also criticized former Congress Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for never visiting Tripura, contrasting this with Modi’s 90-day presence in the North Eastern region.
