Agartala, 24th July 2024: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan has directed stringent actions against mischief-makers and troublemakers in the lead-up to the Panchayat elections. In a law and order review meeting held on Wednesday, Ranjan emphasized coordinated efforts and intelligence-based actions to maintain peace and tranquility across the state.
The meeting, presided over by DGP Ranjan, included all the Superintendents of Police from Tripura’s eight districts. According to a senior Tripura Police official, who requested anonymity, the discussion focused on the state’s law and order situation and the preparedness of the police force for the upcoming Panchayat elections. Each District SP presented their preparatory actions to the DGP and other senior officers.
DGP Ranjan highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts and intelligence-based operations, referencing the recent Gandachhera turmoil as a case study where prompt police action restored order quickly. He called for strong measures against those disrupting peace, emphasizing the judicious use of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) by District SPs.
“He stressed that peace and tranquility should be maintained at any cost and instructed District SPs to be particularly vigilant regarding ethnic and communal issues to prevent any escalation,” said a police official.
Ranjan also instructed District SPs to personally visit the scenes of serious crimes to ensure proper handling. During the meeting, DGP (Intelligence) Anurag provided specific instructions for managing the forthcoming elections, highlighting the need for deft handling of all situations by the police. He emphasized the importance of maximum coordination among CAPF, TSR, and Civil Police.
Senior officers from the Headquarters, including Carey Marak, IGP, TSR, Manchak Ipper, DIGP, Range, and Krishnendu Chakravertty, DIG, Intelligence, also attended the meeting.
