Agartala, 24th June 2025:  In a vital step towards tackling chemical dependency in Tripura, the Uttaran Foundation officially began its journey on October 16, 2024, at Indranagar, Agartala. This newly launched rehabilitation centre is devoted to providing comprehensive care and support to individuals grappling with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as other forms of substance abuse.

Staying true to its name—Uttaran, meaning “upliftment”—the foundation envisions a path to dignity and renewal for those impacted by addiction. With a focus on holistic recovery, it offers a structured, empathetic environment where patients can access medical care, psychological counseling, and emotional support, tailored to meet their unique needs.

What distinguishes Uttaran Foundation is its deep commitment to community involvement. Beyond clinical care, the centre has been proactive in participating in awareness campaigns in collaboration with local clubs. It has also shown eagerness to partner with schools, colleges, public service agencies, and other organisations to host awareness drives and outreach programs focused on prevention and education.

The initiative is spearheaded by Sourjya Das Sharma, a recovering addict whose personal journey of resilience and transformation forms the backbone of the foundation’s mission. With a career that spans multinational giants such as Radius, HSBC, and Sutherland Global Services, Sharma brings both corporate expertise and heartfelt dedication to the cause.

“Addiction is a complex challenge that demands a multifaceted response,” Sharma said during the inauguration. “Uttaran Foundation isn’t just a rehab centre—it’s a movement rooted in healing, compassion, and hope.”

Though still in its nascent phase, the centre has laid out an ambitious plan that includes detoxification services, individual and group therapy, professional counseling, and long-term aftercare. The goal is not just to treat addiction but to understand and address its root causes, build life skills, and ensure successful reintegration into society.

The establishment of Uttaran Foundation marks a meaningful development in Tripura’s healthcare and social support framework. At a time when substance abuse continues to strain families and communities, this centre emerges as a much-needed sanctuary—offering not just recovery, but a renewed purpose for those seeking a way out.
