Agartala, 24th June 2025: In response to a surge in infiltration attempts along the India-Bangladesh border, authorities in South Tripura have intensified administrative and security measures, particularly in the Tir Kumar Para and Magrum regions under 114th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to intelligence sources, infiltrators have been exploiting the rugged, forested terrain to cross into Indian territory, with suspected movement toward Agartala via Sonai and Bankul. The situation has raised alarms over national security, prompting a high-level coordination meeting at Sabroom police station on Tuesday.
The meeting has been chaired by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityananda Sarkar and supervised by Police Officer Apu Das brought together officials from the BSF, Public Works Department (PWD) and other local agencies. Discussions focused on strengthening surveillance and community engagement to deter illegal crossings.
“We’ve taken several constructive decisions today that will significantly bolster our efforts to curb infiltration. Community awareness and inter-agency coordination are key pillars of our strategy,” said SDPO Sarkar.
Among the measures proposed: Enhanced vigilance at transport hubs including permanent police presence at bus stands and stricter monitoring of railway passengers; Registration and surveillance of migrant workers residing in sub-divisional areas, with mandatory reporting to local police stations; Community outreach programs such as fairs, civic action initiatives, and sports events to foster patriotism and discourage collaboration with infiltrators; & Psychological evaluation of unidentified individuals loitering in public spaces, particularly those posing as mentally unstable, based on intelligence inputs suggesting potential misuse of such disguises.
A PWD official highlighted the annual erosion of Indian territory along the Feni River which complicates border fencing efforts. The BSF also reiterated its demand for urgent road repairs from Magrum to Baishnabpur via Gabtoli, Rupaychhari, and Sardar Singh Para to improve mobility and response time in sensitive zones.
Authorities emphasized that public cooperation and timely intelligence sharing will be critical in safeguarding the region.
