Agartala, 25th October 2024 : A Maruti van bearing registration number TR03-0479 loaded with stolen wood met with an accident in the Kalachara area of Santirbazar subdivision. The incident took place when the vehicle was refueling at the Santirbazar petrol pump and personnel from the Forest department noticed the stolen wood.
On spotting the Forest department officials, the vehicle attempted to flee leading to a chase. The van subsequently crashed, resulting in serious injuries to one person. Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and rescued the injured individual identified as Sujan Debnath from Santirbazar Paschim Para.
Debnath is currently receiving treatment at the South District Hospital. The incident highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal wood smuggling in the region.
