Agartala, 23rd April 2026: Tension continues to rise in the hill areas following the recent election results, with reports of sporadic violence emerging from multiple locations over the past few days. In the latest incident, the vehicle of outgoing Tipra Motha MDC Sohel Debbarma was attacked and vandalised by unidentified miscreants.
The incident took place on Wednesday night while Debbarma was travelling from Khumulwng towards Baijalbari via the bypass road. Near the Tulabari area, the vehicle was reportedly targeted with stone pelting by a group of assailants.
As a result of the attack, the car’s windows were smashed. The driver sustained minor injuries in the incident. Sensing danger, Sohel Debbarma immediately left the area to ensure his safety.
Police reached the spot after being informed and escorted the leader to a secure location. Officials from the local police station have initiated an investigation into the matter.
While no official statement has been issued by the party regarding the attack, the incident has raised concern among supporters. Authorities have assured that steps are being taken to identify those responsible, as tension remains high in the region.
