Agartala, 25th July 2024:  Local residents in the Mohanbari area of Hezamara took to the streets on Thursday morning, blocking the Agartala-Khoi road. Their demand: justice for Paresh Debbarma, who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident.

According to eyewitnesses, Paresh Debbarma was struck by a car on Wednesday afternoon. His daughter and daughter-in-law witnessed the incident and confronted the driver, who fled the scene. Despite their efforts, they managed to note down the car’s license plate number.

Paresh Debbarma was rushed to GB Hospital by his sons, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night. Frustrated by the lack of police action, the family visited the Sidhai police station twice, only to find no initiative to impound the killer car.

In response, the community organized a road blockade. The Sidhai police station promptly arrived at the scene, assuring the protesters that the hit-and-run vehicle would be impounded. Satisfied with this commitment, the residents withdrew their blockade, hoping for justice to prevail. The incident highlights the need for improved road safety measures and swift law enforcement action in the region.
