Villagers Stage Road Blockade Demanding Road Repairs in Jolaibari Constituency

Date:

Agartala, 25th June 2026:   Residents of West Pilak Namo Para and Tati Para under the Jolaibari Assembly Constituency staged a road blockade on Thursday, demanding immediate repair of a severely damaged road that has remained in poor condition for nearly seven years.

According to local residents, they had hoped for significant development in the constituency after the political change in 2023 and the election of local MLA and Minister Shuklacharan Noatia. However, villagers alleged that their long-standing grievances, particularly regarding road connectivity, have not been addressed.

The protesters claimed that repeated appeals to local leaders and authorities failed to produce any concrete results. Frustrated by the lack of action, they organized a road blockade on the Jolaibari–Belonia route, disrupting traffic to draw attention to their demands.

Despite adverse weather conditions, residents remained on the road, insisting on immediate intervention from the administration. Protesters said the deteriorated condition of the road has caused significant difficulties for daily commuters and local residents.

Upon receiving information about the blockade, Nababrata Dutta, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Jolaibari Block, rushed to the spot and held discussions with the protesters. He reportedly assured the villagers that steps would be taken to repair the road at the earliest.

Following the assurance from the BDO, the protesters withdrew the blockade and traffic movement resumed.

Residents are now awaiting concrete action from the administration and hope that the long-pending road repair work will finally be undertaken to improve connectivity and ease transportation problems in the area.
