Agartala, 3rd April 2025: The residents of Padmer Par in Ward No. 14 of Kailashahar MunicipalCouncil are facing an acute drinking water crisis for the past two days as thewater supply has been completely halted. Allegedly, the administration has notmade any alternative arrangements, leaving the locals in a desperate situation.In the absence of clean water, the residents are now forced to collectdiscarded water from the local water plant.
The water, which is drained outafter purification, contains high levels of iron, making it unfit forconsumption. However, with no other options available, people are risking theirhealth by using this contaminated water for daily needs.The plight of the people starkly contrasts with the promises of developmentmade by authorities. Residents allege that their elected representatives arewell aware of their suffering but have failed to take any action. “Theycome to our doors during elections, making tall promises, but once they win,they forget us,” a local resident said in frustration.Even when confronted by the media, officials and representatives remainindifferent, failing to provide any concrete solutions. The locals fear thatcontinued use of iron-rich water could lead to severe health issues, includingan increase in waterborne diseases. However, with no immediate intervention insight, they are left with no choice but to depend on the discarded water forsurvival.The residents of Padmer Par urge the administration and publicrepresentatives to take swift action and restore a clean and reliable watersupply to the area before the situation worsens further.
