Waterlogging sparks public outcry in East Gandhigram Panchayat

Date:

Agartala, 28th April 2026:   Even a brief spell of rain this morning left the East Gandhigram Panchayat area under water, exposing the fragile state of local drainage and triggering widespread public anger. Residents reported severe disruption as roads and homes were quickly inundated.

Locals allege that the only drainage route in the area was blocked by Panchayat Pradhan Janki Biswas, who reportedly filled it with soil. While claims have been made that the land is privately owned, questions are being raised about the decision to obstruct the outlet without arranging an alternative system, especially by an elected representative.

The controversy deepened when residents noted that Biswas was absent from the scene despite the worsening situation. Frustration boiled over, with community members accusing the administration of indifference. “The apathy toward common people’s problems is growing day by day,” said Ratan Deb, a member of the Bamutia Mandal, expressing sharp dissatisfaction.

Residents further complained that the Panchayat Pradhan has long acted unilaterally, ignoring repeated appeals for a permanent solution. With no progress despite multiple complaints, the community is now demanding immediate intervention from state authorities and Bamutia leadership to resolve the crisis.

The pressing questions remain: who will take responsibility for the suffering, and when will a lasting solution finally arrive?
