Agartala, 11th September 2025 : The capital city of Tripura is gearing up for one of its grandest festive seasons, with over 230 Durga Pujas set to be celebrated across Agartala this year. This was announced by West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar while addressing a crucial preparatory meeting with puja organisers, club representatives, and service providers at Agartala Town Hall on Thursday morning.
The meeting, chaired by DM (West) Dr. Vishal Kumar, was attended by West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, senior police officers, and officials from various civil administration departments. Representatives of puja committees, sound system providers, decorators, and other stakeholders involved in the festivities also participated in the session, making it a comprehensive coordination exercise ahead of the state’s most-awaited festival.
Highlighting the scale of the celebrations, the DM said that out of the total, 230 will be large-scale community pandals, while several smaller pujas will also add to the festive atmosphere in different neighbourhoods. “Durga Puja in Agartala is not just a festival, it is an emotion for the people. We want to ensure that every pandal, big or small, can carry out the celebrations smoothly. Our objective is to create a festive atmosphere where people can participate without any inconvenience,” Dr. Kumar said.
He further informed that the administration had received queries and concerns from puja organisers regarding the use of sound systems, installation of decorative lights, and the construction of elaborate pandals. “We are here to listen to the grievances of puja committees and service providers. Issues related to sound limits, installation permissions, and safety regulations will be clarified in due course. Our top priority is to maintain law and order and to make sure that celebrations remain peaceful and enjoyable for everyone,” the DM stated.
The meeting also focused on traffic management, a recurring challenge during the festival due to heavy footfall across popular pandals. With several major roads in Agartala currently under construction, the district administration is preparing diversion plans to ease congestion. “We will finalise alternative routes in consultation with the police and public works departments. All arrangements, including traffic diversions, parking facilities, and restricted zones, will be communicated to the public well in advance,” Dr. Kumar assured.
Adding to this, West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak emphasised the importance of inter-departmental coordination. “This is essentially a coordination meeting involving police, civil administration, and organisers. The main goal is to ensure that no one faces any difficulty during the puja days. Adequate security will be deployed at key pandals, and special attention will be given to crowd management, fire safety, and women’s safety. Cooperation between organisers and departments is vital to make this a successful and joyous occasion,” Pathak said.
