Agartala, 4th February 2026 : In a major success against theft-related crimes, West District police have recovered 24 stolen mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners. In a separate operation, personnel from East Police Station also seized a stolen gold chain and arrested one accused in connection with the case.
The recovery details were shared with the media on Tuesday by Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, who was accompanied by Sadar SDPO Debaprasad Roy and Officer-in-Charge of East Police Station, Subrata Debnath.
According to the police, the recovered mobile phones had been reported missing from various locations across West District over the last six months. Following multiple complaints, police teams launched a sustained investigation and tracked the devices using both technical surveillance and field-level inputs. Of the 24 recovered phones, 14 were successfully traced and identified through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CIR) portal. The devices were formally handed over to their owners during the press briefing.
Meanwhile, in another case, police recovered a stolen gold chain from the Chandrapur area of Agartala. One person was arrested in connection with the theft. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the accused had been hiding in Kailashahar, from where he was apprehended during a raid conducted on the basis of a specific tip-off.
Police confirmed that cases have been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is underway. The recovery operation has been welcomed by residents, with beneficiaries expressing relief and appreciation for the efforts of the West District police.
